John Challis Clavichord, 1946 ~ Opus 70.
After spending four years apprenticing with Arnold Dolmetsch in England, John Challis set up shop in Ypsilanti, Michigan. As the son of a jeweler, Challis’ instruments are rich in handmade brass and clean design. The early clavichords like this one have wooden soundboards and bridges with a cast metal frame and are exceptionally stable in tuning. This beautifully restored instrument from 1946 is ready for your collection and music making.
